About Chef Shelbie

Chef Shelbie has been cooking since she was tall enough to reach the stove. Her paternal grandfather, Max was a chef in the Catskill Mountains and prepared Eastern European delicacies such as roast duck and kasha with bowties. Her maternal grandmother, Celia loved to bake pastel pinwheel cookies that matched the color scheme of her bridge parties. And, Aunt Dorothy made the best Southern fried chicken in Savannah!

Shelbie must have inherited the “cooking gene” because she has been fascinated by cookbooks since before she could read! Growing up in a “food” family began Shelbie’s passion for homey dishes and an obsession for different ethnic cuisine. Unlike many home chefs, Shelbie also loves to bake and prepare fabulous desserts.

Shelbie began taking culinary courses soon after college, to improve her technique and depth of knowledge. While much of her early training was in the classical French mode, she has expanded her repertoire to Asian, Middle Eastern and European cuisine. Several years ago, Shelbie attended the Barilla Institute in Parma Italy to receive intensive training in Classic Italian preparation.

Chef Shelbie loves to “pay it forward” by teaching others what she has learned in her more than 30 years of cooking. She provides private classes in client’s homes and also teaches culinary courses for CCBC in the Adult Ed division.  Shelbie is also available for demos and corporate team building activities.

Chef Shelbie also enjoys cooking for her weekly dinner service clients. Providing healthy entrees that are custom designed for each family, clients can dine on freshly prepared, delicious dinners in the comfort of their own home.
